Amended Complaint Filed Against Sheriff Stanley Glanz

  • Eric Harris, Stanley Glanz, TCSO, Terry Byrum, Tulsa County Sheriff Office

June 29, 2015

Today, we amended the complaint filed in an existing case against Sheriff Stanley Glanz to include claims brought on behalf of Eric Harris’ Estate and Plaintiff Terry Byrum. The new allegations set forth details of the unconstitutional and dangerous Reserve Deputy Program overseen by Sheriff Glanz. Under this Program, Bob Bates was given highly preferential treatment at the cost of public safety. In utter disregard for the known, obvious and substantial risks to the public, Glanz and TCSO permitted Bates to repeatedly participate in highly dangerous law enforcement operations, without the necessary supervision, training or certification. Eric Harris died, and Mr. Byrum was injured, as a proximate result.

We are hopeful that the filing of these claims will be the first step in securing some measure of justice and closure for the Harris family and Mr. Byrum.
